2-year Postdoctoral Research Fellowship
The BIOGRIP Node for Soil and Water analysis, based at the Central Analytical Facility at Stellenbosch University seeks applicants for a 2-year Postdoctoral Research Fellowship available at the Department of Geography and Environmental Studies, Faculty of Arts is pleased to announce a fully funded two-year postdoctoral position.
This role will focus on protocol and method development for water and sediment sampling and analysis for radionuclide determination using gamma spectrometry. Once established, the technique will be applied to the Onrus wetland in the Western Cape to evaluate the potential use of radionuclides alongside stable water isotopes as tracers in the hydrological cycle with the aim of establishing a water balance in the Onrus wetland in the Western Cape.
Requirements:
A PhD in Environmental Science (or similar) obtained within the past 5 years.
Demonstrated experience in laboratory analysis of water for stable water isotopes and the subsequent interpretation.
Experience in field data design and collection in seasonal wetland environments is essential.
Must be in possession of a South African code B driver’s license (or international equivalent) as independence in the field is a necessity.
A record of publication(s) in accredited journals that is proportionate to the time since PhD completion.
Remuneration:
The value of the fellowship is R320 000 per year and will be granted for two years, with the opportunity for continuation, depending on the availability of funds and performance. The fellowship will be hosted by Dr Suzanne Grenfell in the department of Geography and Environmental Studies at Stellenbosch University.
